Deep Exclusion Review

Full exclusion-by-exclusion analysis with cited policy language, claim scenarios, and practical impact assessment

When to Run an Exclusion Review

An Exclusion Review analyzes a policy's exclusions and surfaces potential coverage gaps based on the insured's specific business context. It is an internal tool designed to help you identify and prioritize risks before meeting with a client.

Step 1: Name your review and add business context

Give your review a name, then add a description of the insured's business in the Business Context field. This step is optional, but the more context you provide, the more tailored the results will be. Polis uses this information to assess which exclusions are most relevant given how the business operates. If you leave it blank, Polis will infer context from the policy itself.

Select the policy you want to review. Exclusion Reviews are run on one policy at a time.

Step 2: Reading the Report

Click Create Review. Once complete, Polis will generate a report listing the exclusions found in the policy, organized by risk level: Critical, High, Medium, Low, and Clear. We highly recommend filtering by risk level to organize which issues might need your attention first.

Each exclusion is presented with four pieces of information:

  • Plain-Language Meaning: what the exclusion actually says in plain English

  • Exceptions / Nuances: any conditions under which the exclusion may not apply

  • Practical Impact: what the exclusion means for this specific client given their business

  • Section / Endorsement: where in the policy the exclusion appears

Start with Critical items and work down. Use the report to identify gaps worth discussing with the client or flagging for further review.
